Although Internet club kid gone recording artist, Jeffree Star, isn’t slated to perform in Dallas until the Vans Warped Tour this summer (July 5 to be exact), he will be making a special appearance at Borders book store next month.  He’s helping to promote his BFF’s book, Kat Von D‘s High Voltage Tattoo in which Star has a spread. So apparently you can see some of those usually covered tatts.

Get your autograph and snapshots Wednesday, February 4,  7 – 9 p.m @ Borders, 3600 McKinney Avenue in the West Village.

Some of us here used to have huge crushes on Kevin Costner. OK, one of us. And this was back in the early 90s. But really, who couldn’t resist the noble hero of  Dances With Wolves? Scruffy good looks made for a classic leading man and the butt shot in the movie wasn’t so bad either. He kept our interest with more heroics in JFK and somehow had us watching Robin Hood.

Then he divorced, married a younger chick, started making bad movies and lost his heroic demeanor. He became 2nd rate. He became the male Sharon Stone. And now he’s apparently become the one thing all of us dread. The Hollywood somewhat-icon has gone into music. Yep, Costner does country-rock. Or perhaps its a bit bluesy. All we know is that he’ll be playing his tunes with his band Modern West at the Granada here on February 6.

Does anyone forecast a train wreck up ahead?

The peeps over at Queer Liberaction continue to come up with original ideas in small ways to move this big country into offering equal rights for GLBT. This afternoon QL meets at 4 p.m. in front of the old Crossroads Bookstore to “get up on their Milk box” (a nod to Harvey Milk (instead of soap box)) where it sounds like everyone is invited to pop off about their feelings toward treatment of GLBT rights in America. ” For all those who feel angry, frustrated or perhaps even hopeful, QL invites those to get up on the Milk box and “publicly speak our mind and educate Dallas’ Queer Community as to exactly how we are being oppressed.”

Oh and you can hand out flyers too.

We here at Hint of Mint simply have to applaud Queer Liberaction’s efforts. Their fresh and unique ideas are progressive, assertive, bold and interesting. So get your afternoon coffee over at Crossroads and practice your First Amendment rights to speak out on your missing rights.

One half of the lesbian duo Indigo Girls made her way to Dallas this week over at House of Blues. Amy Ray ventures away from usual folky fare to a more rockin’ edge and we’ve heard her show was definitely on the slammin’ side. Here’s a snippet of it thanks to YouTube poster teejay9798.

Yep, that’s what his Facebook said as of four hours ago. And in that small crowded venue known as Bill’s Hideaway, that might be the most intimate many of you can get with Mr. Gary Floyd (not this guy). And thankfully he has a silky smooth voice to go with that not-too-shabby mug. But he probably gets that ALL the time.

By the way, can someone tell Bill of Bill’s Hideaway to PLEASE get a Web site? MySpace at least? Facebook could work. Something!
