Some video finally popped up from last Friday’s Fischerspooner concert at the Granada Theater. There is no better way to experience Fischerspooner than live but if that’s not the case, then video should come pretty close. Here they perform “Danse en France” which plays more cirque than concert. Looks like the avant garde rockers gave a stunning show with compelling visuals and their fusion hardcore musical faves. Hey, that’s how their MySpace describes the music.

Thanks to poster ajtait for the vid.

Over on God-Des & She’s page, you can find five previously unreleased songs. And the band is looking for your opinion on their latest stuff. They say, “We want your opinions. Listen to the new songs and tell us your favorite song of the five.” And you can do that by leaving a comment on their MySpace page.

Or tell them yourself. The band hits Dallas on May 23 at Buddies II with opening act Karin Animal. Get to know ’em a little better by watching their interview below from The Lesbian Podcast. Despite their tough attitude and in your face songs, they seem like some sweet chicks.

We just noticed the flyer over on Sue Ellen’s site for this year’s Dallas Lesbian Festival. And the lineup is looking pretty heavy featuring the return of Deborah Vial. We hear she has been hanging out in Hawaii but will come back to Big D to headline the festival. Not to worry. The rest of the lineup also includes locals Ciao Bella, Anton Shaw and the Michelle Johnson Band.

However, nothing against our Dallas girls, we are kind of stoked about L.A.’s The Dollyrots and San Francisco’s The Action Design being on the bill. In fact, we’re kind of surprised they aren’t higher on the bill. The Dollyrots have received some buzz on NPR’s All Songs Considered and we heard they killed at SXSW this year. And two touring bands on this bill really amp up the lineup. We know our Dallas girls can kick it, but some new and legit rock can only make this show kick ass.

The festival takes place May 24 with advance tickets now on sale. Proceeds from the show benefit Dress for Success, a nonprofit “promoting the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.” Muy fab.

Something we noticed. On the site, it says the Melrose is offering special DLF room rates. And then we chuckled. Lesbian festival – DLF – DILF – not MILF – orrrr, maybe it was just us.

We just got a comment on our MySpace page from local  musician Jevette offering a free download of her song “I’m Not Tracy”. And um, that would be Tracy Chapman she’s talking about y’all. She’s actually made it available to everyone on her page as well. There is a small catch. To get the song, you sign up for her newsletter but we for sure want to know what she’s up to. And by the looks of it, she has a couple of shows on the near horizon. She’ll be doing an in-store show at Best Buy, 4225 LBJ Frwy, Dallas May 2 @ 6 p.m. and then she’s part of ArtFest 2009 on May 23 with a scheduled time of 2:30 p.m.

S4 is going old school with a show benefiting the Greg Dollgener Memorial AIDS Fund (GDMAF, Inc.) and they are bringing one of the original disco divas to town. You might know her from such dance floor smashes as “Red Light” and the “If My Friends Could See Me Now” both of which peaked at #1 on the disco charts. Linda Clifford‘s contribution to the 70s music scene was notable with six more chart topping hits as well as some respected collaborations with Curtis Mayfield and Isaac Hayes. And if that doesn’t relate to any of the new schoolers out there then perhaps this little fact might. Whitney Houston’s “All The Man That I Need” was originally recorded by Clifford back in 1981. And now she’s coming to town to lend a helping hand.

Now that’s a true diva.

You just have to love those old 70s music shows. If it wasn’t for them, we would have images like these below. Here, Clifford sings “If They Could See Me Now” with a lot of glitz  on Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert.

The Turtle Creek Chorale has been making some interesting choices of late and their upcoming show is proof of that. On May 3 and May 6, the TCC performs The Healing Project touted as an exploration during challenging times. This show doesn’t sound like just another classy performance by the guys. What makes the show an extra special event is it “features a new work for chorus and instrumental ensemble by Jewish composer, Andrea Clearfield with texts by High Priest Robert Espindola, of the Community of Christ Church.”

The TCC site describes the concert as “a musical exploration of personal and communal courage during challenging times. Using poetry drawn from personal accounts and powerful, evocative music, we aim to promote awareness of the many similarities among various distinct communities, thus bringing them closer to healing as one greater community.” Not only that, they’ll be graciously sharing the spotlight with “several North Texas nonprofit organizations that provide services to minority communities will present informational exhibits in the Meyerson lobby during these concerts.” So don’t just head in there with your ticket in hand and looking to see and be seen…check out those nonprofits. It’s easy to say they need help but in these times, they really do.

Tix are $20 – $65 and the concerts will be performed at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center, 2301 Flora St. with both shows starting at 8 p.m.

We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention that the tip to this show was from Miss Amanda and Miss Gillian. They couldn’t quite contain their excitement about their tix to seeing Brandi Carlile late next month at the Granada Theater. Then we gave her a listen. There’s some good stuff in that lady’s repertoire. We kind of got stuck on “Have You Ever” which reminded us of Sarah McLachlan’s yodeling with some Patrice Pike mixed in. While she is in the vein of Melissa Etheridge, her voice recalls a more throaty seventies feel. Carlile seems to sound like Janis Joplin if Joplin had calmed down a bit.

Plus, we like that she’s a member of the family as well. Brandi Carlile performs Friday, May 29 at the Granada Theater. For tickets, go here. And thanks Amanda and Gillian!

Mark your calendar for this Friday. GLSEN“s National Day of Silence is April 17 and the Dallas chapter will be holding its event  at SMU at 7 p.m. And to observe the silence, our favorite folk punkster will be down here from Oklahoma performing live. According to his calendar though, it may be Eric and the Adams performing, which we like just fine. We love the live music vs. silence notion but he’ll be here for a good reason. In fact, here’s the word:

In an effort to educate the community about school violence and the need for safe school policies that protect all youth, the Dallas chapter of GLSEN, in partnership with Southern Methodist University’s SPECTRUM, will be calling for community organizations to join with the Day of Silence student participants for the 2nd Annual DFW Breaking the Silence Rally.

The event, designed to show support for schools that are free from violence and harassment, will be held at

7:00 p.m. on April 17 at the Doak Walker Plaza at Southern Methodist University . During the rally, Day of Silence participants from throughout the DFW Metroplex will have an opportunity to share their experience, strength and hope with the larger community. This year’s event will also feature the music of Eric Himan, as seen and heard on MTV’s LOGO and Sirus Radio’s OUTQ Channel.

Hundreds of thousands of students from over 5,000 middle schools, high schools and colleges will ban together in silence on April 17 in the largest student-led action in the country calling for an end to the bullying, harassment and name-calling endured by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) students.

Found this video snippet of the fab Leslie and the Lys. They performed last Thursday (when we took off for the holiday) at the Granada and this clip of their song “Zombie Killer” makes it look like the show was off the chain. The audience was into and Leslie didn’t seem to hold back in her gold lamé glory.
