OK, so we took off a little early yesterday without telling anyone. We apologize. We just get excited about thoughts of Easter baskets and eggs and chocolates and just having another holiday to take off. So enjoy this weekend and don’t forget to be nice to the Easter Bunny!

If you like the Lollipop Shoppe then you’ll love The Smoke. This party collective rings 2009 at perhaps one of the best spots in Dallas, ye olde Sons of Hermann Hall in Deep Ellum. But not only that, for five buckaroos, it’s a lot of music and a lot of dancing for cheap. And a fab alternative to much of the revelry going on about town tonight. If I had to pick one of the parties that we’ve highlighted to go to, it would be this. Check it!

It’s looking a bit like a bearish day for music and we are OK with that. Just got the following bulletin complete with lyrics for Baltimore musician Michael West‘s original holiday tune, “Christmas I Need You”. Just head over to his MySpace page to give it a listen and then add it to your holiday playlist.

Here’s the bulletin that came via Bearapalooza Nation 2008:

Hello all,

I just uploaded a new Christmas song, called “Christmas I Need You”, that I proudly recorded with my dear friends Freddy and Andy, and I wanted to share it with all of you! Andy Northrup wrote this incredible tune and Freddy Freeman worked his studio magic and arranged and produced the entire song including all instruments and backing vocals.

Happy Holidays Everyone!
from the guys at Bearapalooza!!!

Christmas, (I Need You)
Written by Andy Northrup
Arrangement, production & backup vocals by Freddy Freeman
Performed by Michael West

Some like you green, some like you brown

Some say you need snow to light up your crown

But all I can say is I’m glad you’re here

It’s been a long road, it’s been a hard year

My stereo sings your sweetest sounds

Cause Christmas I need you, can you stick around

The lights on the tree, the coffee’s been poured

The kids gather round, they know what’s in store

We share what we have and look to the new

The things that we’ve done, the things we’ve been through

And the ones that we’re missing, the ones that were found

And Christmas we need you, can you stick around

We look to you cause you help us understand

We all just need to feel at home

By reaching out and trying to live in peace

We might just finally reap what we have sown

The story’s so old but still it burns bright

The star in the east in the still of the night

In a part of the world where we came to be

The cradle of life though some don’t agree

Where Jewish and Muslim and Christians surround

And Christmas they need you, can you stick around

Some put you down cause they only see the greed

Some have a hero of their own

Some shrug you off cause they say they don’t believe

And it makes more sense to think we’re all alone

But he said we should love, he said not to hate

What more do you need, why not celebrate

I don’t even care if God is involved

Or if he exists or if we evolved

We’re all of us stuck here on the same piece of ground

And Christmas we need you, can you stick around

Please Christmas, I need you, can you stick around

With all the stuff Join the Impact is up to and our willingness to help spread the word, Hint of Mint should just move into their fold. But we also like doing the music and entertainy stuff. So we’ll keep our support for the organization by spreading the word of what they are up to.

And one thing would be this coming Saturday’s event. They’ve been busy with protests of late but they want to stress this ain’t no protest. Merely a candelight vigil for the spirit of the season. So head over to the Galleria for the Light Up the Night for Equality early evening Saturday.  Here are the official deets.

On Saturday, December 20th, JoinTheImpact.com asks that you join again for a nationwide rally. Candlelight vigils will be held at commercial centers in cities across the country in remembrance of the rights that once were for 18,000 marriages, and in honor of the rights that one day will be again – for everyone.

Where:

The Dallas Candlelight Vigil will be held outside the Galleria and want to stress we are not protesting, especially the Galleria.  Many locals and tourists will be passing by as they carry on a 26 year tradition of visiting the Galleria during the holidays for their shopping needs. This is a peaceful candlelight vigil in the spirit of the holidays.

We will line both sides of the street on Alpha Road (from the Tollway to Noel Road) from 5:00pm to 6:30pm.  At 630pm, we will all go inside to warm up at the Starbucks (ed note: you SO got to try the Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate) located near Macy’s before we call it a night and leave as a group or finish our last minute Christmas shopping.
When:

5:00 to 7:00pm – Please arrive by 445pm and park in the Alpha Parkway Plaza parking lot north of the Galleria (North of Alpha and East of the Tollway) – not the Galleria. We do not want to negatively impact any of the parking issues for the Galleria or Alpha Parkway Plaza , so please do not take front-row parking for any customers.  There are some vacant store areas-please use those areas.

You will need:

Dress warmly-this is outside.  A messaged t-shirt/sweatshirt, a candle & holder (no flashlights) and a few dollars for coffee.

TShirt Messages: 1st Class Taxpayer-2nd Class Citizen, Equality for/4 All, Equal/= Rights for/4 All.

Order T-Shirts by Dec 12th: You can purchase Tshirts on www.JoinTheImpact.com if you order by December 12th to ensure delivery by 19th.

OR print your own graphic onto Iron-on material (you can check out JTI’s store graphic tab or make your own message & iron on material is available at almost any store like WalMart).

T-Shirt Making Party Dec 19th: The night before, many of us will be making our own shirts from 6:30-900pm at the Resource Center of Dallas at 2701 Reagan St, Dallas in the Blue/Yellow room.  Please bring a blank T-Shirt or Sweatshirt and RSVP below so we know how many to expect.

For The Candlelight Vigil, Please RSVP by December 16th at one of our page and check for there for any updates:

So there’s that but then I found this nifty idea on their site. They want the GLBT community of America (and you GLBT friendlies too) to send President Elect Obama a postcard for the holidays. We thought this was a pretty rad idea. Check it out:

SEND OBAMA A POSTCARD FOR EQUALITY BEFORE CHRISTMAS!

Our friends at LGBTQ Civil Rights Front have come up with a brilliant way for us to ensure that LGBTQ issues aren’t forgotten as President-elect Obama makes his transition into the White House.

Their idea: buy a postcard from your home town, include a handwritten message, and mail it to Obama’s Presidential Transition Office.

Keep up the momentum! Get the suggested message and transition office mailing address here. Then post a photo of you and your card here!

Found this today which was posted a week ago thanks to alblackwell. Clearly a preview of their show as they perform a medley of Christmas hits. The Turtle Creek Chorale seemed to sound in great form for their annual holiday concerts from last week.

Don’t forget our mini-series, Monday Holiday Tunes. This was too priceless to pass up. Can’t be surprised by the lack of Hanukkah songs out there but we SO didn’t want to actually put Adam Sandler up on here. Thankfully we found this lady….ooops, we mean gent from Kings of Drag doing some fairly great lip sync action.
