Patrice Pike performed at the Rockin’ For Rescue benefit this past Saturday and while we’re waiting for some footage to pop up of the pet rescuing event, we’re giving you the openly bi singer’s performance at BoneDoc’s in Richardson earlier this spring. Perhaps one of the more unusual venues in the Metroplex, BoneDoc’s is basically a house concert but with an envious array of talent stopping through. If only other venues could have some of the talent BoneDoc’s has had.

The Austin artist performs “Kiss Me Baby” below in the video complete with a homey MJ Designs type swag decoration on the wall. But if we had to give you our Pike favorite, it might just be gritty ballad “Dominique”.

We love us some Roy G & the Biv. Their EP release earlier this year has some of the more captivating dance music of late that reminds of us some classic sounds while keeping an original edge. Now, as Halloween rolls closer, the Denton-based duo released a remake of Rockwell’s 80s paranoia classic “Somebody’s Watching Me” and ooowee I used to love that song especially Michael Jackson on the chorus. Actually, the song creeped me out and I never understood the British accent but whatev, still loved it. But this version is refreshed, remixed and redone for today. So get your free download here and add it to your creepy Halloween mixtape.

Well, it’s probably the newest divorce heard round the world but after almost eight years, Guy Ritchie and Madonna are calling it quits. This should make for a fun Christmas for the kiddos since that’s when it should all be final. And this makes me sad and mad. Of course, we could never glimpse into their home life so no telling what was going on but it just irks me when Madonna goes and talks up Kabbalah and all of its virtues and positive effects on life and then goes and has a divorce.

I like Madonna. I like Guy. I didn’t like Hard Candy but that’s neither here nor there. But geez, if you’re worth over $500 million then get some friggin’ awesome therapy. Don’t try to have this spiritual image to the world about love and life and whatever and then call it quits on a marriage.

But I guess they can afford to. Shame.

We hope! Every year The Killers do a Christmas song and the rumors are looking to be true that they will be teaming up with the Drama Queen of Pop, Elton John to release “Joseph, Better You than Me”, the proposed title of the song. But we’ll have to wait till the holiday season ekes just a little closer. The clip below pretty much just says everything I just did. D’oh.

Hopefully you got your Killer fix this past weekend as they performed on Saturday Night Live. Their new album drops in November but their single, “Human” is pretttty awwwesome. I think anyway. Of course, we love The Killers for their (probably unintentional) tranny hit, “Somebody Told Me”.

As for the latest on Sir Elton John? Everyone’s favorite male diva hasn’t mentioned much about new releases but he did have some disappointing news recently. The Press Association mentioned yesterday that a  brooch he wore in the video for “I Don’t Wanna Go On With You Like That” didn’t sell at auction. Ouch. However, looking at it, I can’t say that his celebrity would have been enough to make me want it. It’s a little on the garish side. But then, that was the 80s.

I was going to title this We Read Other Blogs So You Don’t Have To but I chuckled to myself because that would have been a blatant headline thievery from D Mag’s Frontburner blog. I just always loved that headline. But, it resonates here as I was turned onto Popolio, a fellow entertainment blog out of Texas. They posted a podcast interview with out Austin musician Phil Dutra yesterday. Popolio “asks Phil about his songwriting accolades including having his music remixed by award-winning producer, Michael Lloyd, and why Phil’s giving his music away!” Be patient with the buffering time though as it loads.

When I heard “free music”, I headed over to his site quickly like to snag some for my iPod and sure enough, there looks to be some 23 songs available for free downloading. His acoustic squeaky clean pop has some nice ring to it and I found myself really enjoying “Never Enough” and “She Walks Away” which also kind of put a question mark over my head. I’m never quite sure about out artists who write “straight” songs but perhaps it was at another time in his life. Or it may be about a female dog which I think would make it super-cute. Listen to it below and tell me what you think.

I think it may be a Phil Dutra day today for you. Listen to the podcast, download his songs, read his Kama Dutra blog and watch the video below. Now all we have to do is get the guy up to play Dallas. Austin’s not that far, I’m sure it wouldn’t be too hard to have him play for us Big D peeps. Right, Mr. Dutra? Right??

Oh shizzy, THIS is the event of the weekend. After a simple request, Bell said yes to playing Dallas at S4 during Pride on Friday, September 19. How amazing is that? Now the show said ‘sold out’ but I followed the procedures to get tix and it seemed to let me go all the way with purchasing them to get at Will Call. However, I ended up backing out because I got a little afraid I’d get charged but then have no tix and be all fussy about the to do. But that’s just my paranoid self.

But as it gets closer, I’m thinking I just may go through with it. I mean, Andy Bell, up close (sorta) and for cheap ($15 advance $20 door). Does it get much better? Well, yeah, apparently if you paid the $50 for VIP treatment that gets you to meet the guy. I’m getting veklempt just thinking about it! If we don’t make it out and you do, please send us your take on the show. Other than it more than likely being friggin’ fantastic!

I know he has his own stuff but I really hope he sings this song the way he did in Nashville. Even if I can’t be there, it’s so beautiful, everyone needs to hear it!

LISTEN: Oh L’amour

UPDATE: I just received word from Caven about my ticket confusion. And it’s a good thing!

Here’s the deal – the VIP Meet & Greet tickets are sold out.  We’re only selling a certain number of advance tickets, and we’re 25 away from selling out tht category – everything else will be at the door.”

Looking for credit card now.

Deborah Vial just had a huge to-do over the weekend for her DVD release. And now she’s gonna shake up the Vixin Lounge @ Sue Ellen’s. Clearly, they can’t get enough of Vial. And neither can we. Ciao Bella also performs.

Although he admits his Web site is a bit on the boring side, you can go over to local artist Tommy Hernandez’s site to download a couple of his mp3’s. I was curious about the title “Burger Juice” and clicked appropriately. The song features Smith, a rapper (really?) who I haven’t heard of but is apparently off to Austria to record an album. At least according to the site.

I’m not really sure what’s going on with the song or if that’s what it should be called. Perhaps piece would be better? With the giggles and lack of structure, it plays more like an inside joke but if he’s offering it up, then this is what he calls Pop-Electro-Crunk. His other tune, “Skell” works a bit better.

I caught Hernandez at JR’s earlier this summer where he shared the bill with Dan Paul Roberts. I missed DP but Hernandez and his Sweet Boys finished out the show. His set was much more pop-ish than this so I am a tad curious to see what results from the direction he’s taking. I imagine with this sort of deconstructive electronica and straightforward pop music, a smart fusion of both could move him into Yaz territory (or is it Yazoo now?). Songs from his Mimespeak album play so much differently, and honestly a little better (especially the lovely “Secret Song”) , than a serving of “Burger Juice”, but that’s just me. However, you can hear a bit of both worlds in the title track of Mimespeak.
