First of all, sorry we’ve been so quiet over here. Some mayjah technical difficulties had us out of pocket for the past few days. However, it looks like we are back up and running. Whew!

Now, back to the rumors. A little bird mentioned that local drag band favorites She-Dick will might be coming back to Big D from their new home in New York. Yep. They could be making the stops here in town as they head to Austin for SXSW but it depends on if they can book shows here and where those will be.

Cross your fingers! We are!

Yep, that’s what his Facebook said as of four hours ago. And in that small crowded venue known as Bill’s Hideaway, that might be the most intimate many of you can get with Mr. Gary Floyd (not this guy). And thankfully he has a silky smooth voice to go with that not-too-shabby mug. But he probably gets that ALL the time.

By the way, can someone tell Bill of Bill’s Hideaway to PLEASE get a Web site? MySpace at least? Facebook could work. Something!

Guerilla Gay Bar has made an excellent choice with one of my favorites and a good spot that I think everyone will enjoy. It’s casual, cool and their selection of beers is OUTSTANDING. So where is GGB taking you tomorrow? Look a little Uptown won’t you? Here’s the word:

Howdy Partners, Guerilla Partners that is, please join us for the December Holiday Takeover. This month we are hosting the HO HO HOedown takeover at the Gingerman Pub. It’s the holidays and who doesn’t like a Gingerbread Man, um, we mean gingerbread person(it is 2008, gotta be P.C.!) Since last month we were a little bit Rock-N-Roll, the attire for this months takeover is a little bit Country (attire, not bar,we’re all about pushing boundaries, but not crazy!). Or, be bold and come in your most hideous holiday sweater! You know you have them, even if they are hidden in the back of that closet you blew out of.
Free drink for the first person to show up in Chaps (with pants/jeans under them please) or a bedazzled sweater! Find the host to claim your prize!

*Note – Start time is 9:00 PM*

Cheers Queers! It’s time to have a Merry Merry, Mary!!

Earlier this year we mentioned stumbling across local musician Brent Paxton’s Web site. We were quite interested in what was going on with him because he had some good music on his MySpace page and we always like tapping into the local GLBT talent Dallas has but his site was fairly underwhelming. No updates had happened for quite a while and it all seemed so vacant.

That is until we started getting a new slew of bulletins from Mr. Paxton. Turns out he’s back on track and rarin’ to go. His site has been revamped and apparently he’s much more than a musician. His B-Pax Productions company includes a record label which is signing new talent now, a film production with music videos on the way and a radio show via SMU radio.

According to the site, he has three songs about to drop before his album. “Insomnia” is said to be released by the end of the year. If it’s anything like his dance pop “Bang Bang”, the Dallas music scene could finally have another in its pop music scene which is somewhat lacking at the moment.

Oy! We try to keep banker’s hours here at the Mint but sometimes we just forget to get other stuff up or just get bummed by other posts.

Today, all day, is the Go Girls Fest over at Opening Bell coffee. Perhaps one of the best mini-festivals in town and so worth the pocket change to get in, the Fest features a line-up of some of the best female artists in town including a couple of our faves, Jevette and Bandmates. With an inspiring lineup of local artists, the fest takes you from afternoon to midnight. But if you get tired, don’t you worry, there’s some coffee pretty handy to keep you going. Jittery eyes going even.

If you get there pretty early, as in, be one of the first 100, you’re going to walk away with a free CD as well. So five bucks for some 11 bands and artists AND a free CD? OK, yeah, this is totally your place to be. A

I just came across the Web site for local artist Brent Paxton and am most curious about the mysterious gent. His Web site all seems last updated in August of 07 but has some great tunes playing while I perused. OK, I just heard one and that was “Up and Down” but it had me head bopping. According to the site, his debut album My Addiction came out last December and was available on his MySpace page. Huh? I couldn’t find it when I went on there so I assume I just missed out. However, it sounds intriguing. His site describes Addiction as ” an assortment of fast-paced pop dance beats, smooth rock ballads, and get on your feet electronica sounds…My Addiction (also titled Mi Adiccion) is an Enrique Iglesias-styled album with most singles in Spanish and English…Up & Down is no different, a Spanish version will be coming soon.”

Umm…ok, so where is this guy? There is no news on the site and no upcoming shows. Why isn’t Dallas’ next pop star saying too much? Well, he is…sort of. According to his MySpace page, he did log on today and left a pensive blog piece just a few days ago. He has a link from his site to YouTube where I found his song demo “Bang! Bang!” without a video. Just an image to a song and that song pumps it just as well. Oh and a video his boyfriend did for a friend of his and…um…I don’t know what that was about.

Perhaps he’s biding his time as most artists do between releases. We hope anyways because the stuff he’s releasing ain’t too bad. Perhaps this brooding silence will unleash songs that are even better than the “old” stuff.

Don’t forget that the 2008 Alan Ross Texas Freedom Parade is around the corner. That and the festival at Lee Park will be Sunday, September 21 so mark your calendars. Of course, expect other Pride events around town as well. I hear there’s an Andy Bell show going on which is going to be quite the big deal. I’ll post that info up a bit later since I’m fairly sure that show is no secret. But we’re gonna keep an eye out for you so you can plan accordingly.

After the festival, you might want to head over to Buddies II for their Pride Parade After Party with IzzyScott, Karlisa and Larry live on the deck. Buddies II is probably one of the best clubs in Dallas. With a great dance floor, awesome sound system and the sheer bigness of it all (sand volleyball and additional detached parlor bar), this place makes for some ajor good times. While you’re there, maybe you can take a dip in their awesome pool. Oh and if that’s not enough, then these words should get you in – FREE PARKING & NO COVER CHARGE!

And at the risk of sounding completely shallow, I might check this show out because Scott from IzzyScott is hot hot hot. He’s also the drummer for Bandmates who I’ve seen a couple of times around town. And trust me, he’s totally swoon-worthy.

We’ll keep a look out for other events but please let us know if we overlook any. Pride is fun. We just wanna make it funner. Ooops, more fun I mean!

Deborah Vial just had a huge to-do over the weekend for her DVD release. And now she’s gonna shake up the Vixin Lounge @ Sue Ellen’s. Clearly, they can’t get enough of Vial. And neither can we. Ciao Bella also performs.

Hint  of Mint might be out tonight at the Fallout Lounge in Exposition Park to check out the disco stylings of Roy G and the Biv. We say might because the real world has us working pretty late this evening. Grrrr. I’ll tell you this, the music on their site is pretty addictive. I cannot get enough of their song “Nicotine”. The Denton based duo will have their listening party as their EP makes its online debut today! This could be our very own answer to the Pet Shop Boys. OK, the lyrics are little less sophisticated but seriously, who can compare to PSB?

Roy G and the Biv offer a new vigor to the new face of dance music. It’s not just throbbing techno beats anymore and thank goodness for that! I just wish I could offer a fair description of their music. I hear some Justin in there. Some Ghosthustler. I’m reminded of Information Society. And then throw in some Daft Punk. Quick did a good piece on them here that gives some insight to the young band.

So now, go and give it a listen. And preferably tonight at Fallout. Besides, you gotta love that, along with Quick, the show is being presented by Disco Disco!

OK, so if you’re just gonna head out to the bars all weekend because it’s a three-day one, at least let us give you some options. Unless you only have one thing in mind when heading out, then I think anything we say will go unnoticed. But we’re still hoping.

Friday – August 29 The Tit’s and Toy’z Show @ Buddies

If you need help figuring this one out, then you might need more help than we can offer. Back by popular demand, the T and T show will be hosted by Gene the Machine and the ladies of Buddies II say that it’s going to be “a lickin’ stickin’ gramin’ jammin’ good time!” To which all I can say is “yipes!” And what does gramin’ mean? Show starts @ 10:30.

Sunday – August 31 Deborah Vial DVD release @ Sue Ellen’s

I think I’m gonna let the flyer speak for itself on this one. I think I may be checking this one out. Especially if we can get a camera over there, then for sure! But Vial is pretty amazing and that’s a fairly decent lineup for the Strip. I keep hoping more live music shows up on Cedar Springs and Sue Ellen’s keeps making my wish come true.

Friday Saturday – August 30 Black Tie Dynasty @ Barley House

People might make fun of my pop-rock tastes but I may forever be a fan of BTD. The new New Wave here in Dallas might just start with these guys and I think it may be safe to assume that with a new album dropping this year, they’ll be performing some of the new stuff. And my God, this poster is fantastic. If you want Killers + Depeche Mode + New Order with some local flavor, come check ’em out.

August 30 and 31 Miss Gay Texas State at Large @ Best Friends Club

Trek on over to Fort Worth to the first official Miss Gay TX S@L event. Sable Alexander and Linze Serell look to be on hand to compete with entertainment by Mattie Madison and D’Aundra Dennay and hosted by special guest MC, Tessy. Gotta love it. And really, what’s a little day trip (or night for that matter) on the weekend to get in on some drag action? You know you want to.

The entire holiday weekend and next – A Decade of Texas Music Photography @ Kettle Art

There are several reasons you should go see this. Jason Janik’s work of bands and artists over the past 10 years all in one place is a good reason. Kettle Art is amazing. That’s two. The show benefits the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Hello? And, the other half of Hint of Mint, Cindy Chaffin will be there. She did the video for the show and will perhaps be putting the camera to work on the exhibit and the slew of bands performing such as Smile Smile, Shibboleth (awww) and Man Factory and the closing show next door at Club Dada looks to be a hot spot as well with Red Monroe, Glen Reynolds and more. Check it fer sure!

As far as actual Labor Day? Chill out, barbecue, have a ‘rita. You might need recovery time from the weekend!
